A chemical peel acne treatment can be performed and repeated at 2-week intervals to address acne and acne scars. The chemical peels provided at Sovereign Skin are Health Canada-approved, so they are safe for use. Generally, chemical peels are made up of various acids and concentrations. There can be superficial, medium, or deep chemical peels that are made up of any of the following ingredients: glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, polyhydroxy acid, amino fruit acid, trichloracetic acid (TCA), and others.
A chemical peel is not a long treatment, and it can usually be performed in under 45 minutes. Following treatment, it is important to avoid direct sun exposure and wear an SPF. As to be expected, a chemical peel does involve the peeling of the superficial layer of the skin. Such peeling can last anywhere from 2 to 5 days post-procedure, but it should not adversely impact the daily schedule of patients undergoing the acne treatment. The end result is usually a sun-burned look for a day. However, that sun-burned look can actually diminish with each subsequent chemical peel and will not be as noticeable as the first time.
The way a chemical peel works is to penetrate the skin superficially (or even slightly deeper), working across the surface of the face to shed dead skin cells. This allows fresh, new skin cells to migrate upward and be revealed. The younger skin looks fresher and is stronger. Chemical peels can help reduce oil secretions that cause acne problems and can provide anti-inflammatory benefits – especially with acne papules and pustules. The medium to deep peels will resurface the skin to improve the look of acne scars. ERBIUM LASER

Co2 Laser Treatments

The CO2 laser reaches the deepest depths of any laser used on the skin’s layers and, therefore, is the most effective. The laser treatment consists of making tiny, microscopic perforations, or holes, across the surface of the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact to promote faster healing. The laser removes the upper layers of the skin, thus targeting the depth of some of the acne scars so that the freshly revealed skin is more evenly matched to the original scarred area. These tiny holes will heal, stimulating healthy new collagen to help smooth out what remains of the acne scars. Improvements in the visible look of the skin will be seen as soon as the skin heals within 7 to 10 days.
